Press release #2025/03

As is tradition, the Belgian Rally Championship got underway on the muddy roads and tracks of Hesbaye this Saturday with a Rally van Haspengouw that did the tradition proud - the rain making the course extremely treacherous. It was in these conditions that Lifelive Motorsport made its national debut with the two Hyundai i20 N Rally2 'Step2' of Niels Reynvoet and Kris D'alleine on one side, Tom Rensonnet and Johan Jalet on the other...

After a dry shakedown, the first few special stages were necessary for Niels Reynvoet and his team to find the right setup. However, the tone was quickly set and the Lifelive Motorsport clan was satisfied with Niels' performance, who was constantly in the top 3 overall! Better still, in the second run of the Halle-Booienhoven special stage, the Saint-Vith team won its first scratch time. This propelled Reynvoet and D'alleine into 2nd place in the provisional ranking...

Lifelive Motorsport has its baptism of fire in a Rally van Haspengouw in difficult weather conditions

Things are going very well,” Niels Reynvoet commented at the time. During the first lap, we obviously had to adapt to the car and the conditions, but the pace picked up afterwards. The objective now is to continue in the same way and thus confirm the level of performance of the Hyundai in these circumstances.”

In the fight with multiple Belgian champion Pieter Tsjoen and an impressive Fred Miclotte, Niels unfortunately made a mistake in the penultimate special stage, which took place in incredibly difficult weather conditions. The result was a very frustrating retirement, depriving the crew of a first podium finish and an interesting haul of points.

It's obviously not the result we were hoping for, but the racing conditions were very different from what we encountered during the tests and the shakedown,” Niels analyzed. During the second loop, we were able to find some good settings, which was promising for the future. I absolutely wanted to keep second place, because the difference in points between second place and fourth place is significant. At the start of SS11, the rain intensified, we started aquaplaning, with the consequences we know. What I want to remember is that, under normal conditions, the car works really well. We're going to work on it some more, but the pace is good...”

For their part, Tom Rensonnet and Johan Jalet approached this Rally van Haspengouw with caution, determined to focus on the kilometers covered and thus continue their learning of the Rally2 in the context of the BRC. Once the first loop was completed, the duo was already in an encouraging provisional 6th place, before upping the pace, finishing the event with the 5th best time in Gingelom, and completing the Rally van Haspengouw in 5th place overall. It's what you might call a successful start and a mission very well accomplished...

The conditions were obviously tricky, but we had a lot of fun,” said Tom Rensonnet. The difficulty of the day was in finding a good setup, which was not easy. On the special stage, the ropes were very dirty, which increased the risk of punctures. We tackled the special stage one at a time, some going better than others, and in the end, we finished in a good top 5 overall. That was clearly the objective when we arrived here. Especially in view of the conditions...”

During the 12 special stages, each one a challenge in Haspengouw, Tom Rensonnet didn't make a single mistake. This says a lot about his ability to handle the Hyundai i20 N Rally2, which, let's not forget, he had to learn everything about.

At the end of this rather muscular introduction, Raphaël de Borman (Managing Director at Lifelive Motorsport) draws up an initial assessment:

"I think we can be satisfied with this first performance. Our team did a fantastic job preparing the cars in record time and arrived in Sint-Truiden with quite a few hours of sleep behind them. During these three days, they delivered a flawless performance - I am very proud of them.

In sporting terms, I am of course disappointed for Niels, especially as he was really unlucky, paying dearly for a small mistake. That's part of the game and the season is still long. For me, the main thing is that we were on the right track in terms of performance.

As for Tom, he made a very good start by following the plan to the letter. It's encouraging for the rest of the season, especially in conditions and on courses that will be more favorable to him."

After this first event, full of twists and turns, Lifelive Motorsport will already start preparing for the rest of the season, which will include the TAC Rally for Niels Reynvoet, then the Rallye de Wallonie scheduled for the last weekend of April, with conditions that should be much more spring-like...
